Vanguard International Scouting Association Announces Streamlined Religious Award Requirements for Latter-day Saint Scouting
Today, the Vanguard International Scouting Association announced streamlined requirements for its Vanguard Duty to God and Light & Truth Awards, making the religious recognition program more accessible while maintaining its core spiritual values. The updated requirements, developed after extensive consultation and feedback, reflect a commitment to supporting Latter-day Saint Scouts’ spiritual growth.
To earn their religious emblems, Latter-day Saint Scouts, Scouters, and Scouting friends fulfill requirements in building faith, living the Gospel of Jesus Christ, honoring family, preparing for a mission, valuing Church history, and serving others.
“These streamlined requirements preserve the award’s meaningful connection between Scouting and the Gospel of Jesus Christ while creating a clearer path for Scouts and Souters to earn this important recognition,” said Charles Dahlquist, President of Vanguard Scouting. “We believe these changes will encourage more young people and adults to strengthen their spiritual journey through Scouting.”
Updates to the awards include revised references to award resources, simplified wording & requirement structure, and additional methods for journaling and sharing participants’ experiences in earning the awards.
Cub Scouts, Scouts, and Scouters can begin using the updated requirements immediately, with all previously earned progress remaining valid.
