Scout Profile: Aaron

At just 17 years old, Aaron U is the kind of Scout that makes you remember why Scouting matters.

Aaron earned his Eagle Scout Award at age 12 – but that was just the beginning. In the years since, he has poured himself into the program with a passion that, according to his mom, she has never seen matched. “I’ve never seen someone that loves Scouting as much as Aaron does,” she says, “and he shares that love with everyone around him.”

And the record backs that up.

Aaron has held leadership positions in both his Troop and Venturing Crew, and is entering his 4th year on Scout camp staff – serving both Summer and Winter camps. He has attended and staffed NAYLE (National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience) and staffed NYLT for three years. He is deeply active in the Order of the Arrow, serving in both leadership and service roles.

His accomplishments on the trail are just as impressive. Aaron holds the Grand Slam Award, having completed qualifying high adventure programs at all four National High Adventure Bases. He has earned all 141 Merit Badges, holds the National Outdoor Award Medal, and was recognized as the Scout of the Year by his local VFW Post.

Beyond Scouting, Aaron is captain of his school’s fencing team and has earned the Congressional Award Gold Medal — which will be presented in Washington, D.C. on June 8th.

A rising senior, Aaron hopes to study Materials Science Engineering in college.

Aaron is also a faithful Latter-day Saint, active in his ward and a regular at FSY. He loves teaching outdoor skills to the young men in his Ward,  carrying the spirit of Scouting right into his church community.

When asked how Scouting has shaped his discipleship, Aaron put it simply:

“Being a part of Scouting has allowed me to find the Spirit in places outside of church. It is also easier for me to follow the Scout Oath and Law because of the qualities that the church teaches.”

Aaron is a remarkable example of what it looks like when a young man fully embraces both his faith and his commitment to service. We are proud to call him one of our own.
