2025 World Scout Moot
Held every four years, the World Scout Moot is a gathering for young adults (ages 18–25) of the Scout movement, focusing on intercultural exchange, leadership, and outdoor adventure. Held in the “off-years” of the World Scout Jamboree, it brings together thousands of participants from across the globe to build international friendship, understanding, and community through a shared experience. The 2025 event was held in Portugal and was organized by the World Organization of the Scouting Movement (WOSM) in conjunction with the Portuguese Scout Federation.

Similar to the World Scout Jamboree, a “Faith & Beliefs” area was available for participants to learn more about some of the major world religions involved in Scouting. Vanguard International Scouting Association joined other Jewish, Muslim, Christian, and Sikh friends to create an area that welcomed hundreds of Moot participants throughout the event.

Much like Vanguard’s participation at both the 2023 National and World Scout Jamborees, we offered Moot participants the opportunity to earn the Vanguard “Be A Light Award.” This medallion has only six requirements, all of which are taken directly from the Vanguard Duty to God Award. While earning the medallion, Scouts learned more about faith and the core beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Joining the Vanguard staff members were local missionaries from the Porto Portugal Mission who helped teach in Portuguese and Spanish. These young men were able to connect with booth visitors and help hundreds of Moot participants earn the coveted Be A Light Award.

An interfaith service was held at the Moot. With a theme of “world peace”, each of the faiths was given an opportunity to share scripture and spiritual thoughts with the audience. Additional missionaries helped deliver the Vanguard Scouting presentation and joined Vanguard staff in singing a single verse of “I Am a Child of God.”
The 2025 Moot was a significant success for Vanguard Scouting, setting the stage for further cooperation with other faiths at the upcoming 2027 World Scout Jamboree in Gdańsk, Poland.
